2027 Subaru BRZ tS POV Test Drive & Review!

The Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 duo has been one of my favorite modern sports cars, alongside the Mazda Miata. It’s a pretty simple construction – RWD platform, high-revving naturally aspirated engine, and 6-speed manual gearbox. No unnecessary electromechanical systems. It truly is a raw, old-school feeling vehicle, making it stand out in today’s world.

What’s even better, is that there are a lot of aftermarket solutions for it. You can easily turn the BRZ into a track car, drift toy, autocross tool, or just a fun vehicle that you enjoy on the weekends.

The only small problem is, unless you buy the car used, any mods will void the warranty. So, Subaru thought about it, and reached out to the fellas from the STI division to do the BRZ “their way”.

As a result, we received retuned Hitachi dampers, Brembo brakes on all four corners, and… a couple of “tS” badges.

Sadly, the drivetrain remained untouched, so if you were hoping for more power – you’re on your own.

The 2.4L naturally aspirated flat-4 still makes 228 hp & 184 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t a lot, but considering the car weighs approximately 2,800 lbs, is adequate.

Pricing for the Subaru BRZ starts at around $36,000 for a Limited model, and goes up to $40,000 for a tested tS.

Other cars to consider are Toyota GR86, Mazda Miata, Subaru WRX, Scion FRS, Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z, or a Honda Civic Si.
